If you’re a Mom going to Central Florida Mom Prom, let’s face it- there is a very high likelihood that you don’t already have a stash of amazing gowns you can choose from. Your gown-worthy nights are probably fewer and far between once kids enter the picture. Maybe you, like me, find that although your scale isn’t too far off what it used to be, everything just kind of…shifted. This leaves you with a closet full of stuff that looks gorgeous on the hanger but still isn’t going to work for actually putting on your body.
The first year, I’m not going to lie…I totally freaked out the second I clicked on the “submit” button to purchase my ticket. Don’t get me wrong- I was SO excited to go. But then suddenly my thoughts turned to “I have no dress that fits me well enough to wear out in public.” And yes, I panicked. First, I tried on every dress in my closet. Not my smartest move. After that, I poured a glass of wine and started to look at Yelp reviews on thrift stores.
And then someone on Facebook mentioned Style Encore, because they were a sponsor of the Central Florida Mom Prom. It had *just* opened, like, two months before. Since it was incredibly close to my house, I put that at the top of my list for places to try.
It ended up being the one and only stop I made. Also? I did not feel for one second like I was shopping in a second-hand store. To the contrary, Monica was working that night and basically acted as my personal shopper. She brought me dresses and shoes and helped me zip up the back zippers I could not reach. In one group of dresses was a black one that she prefaced with “it’s long, but a petite size, so it should work for you, and though it doesn’t look like much on the hanger, it’s stunning on.” As I tried on each dress, she gave me (real, helpful) feedback and when I stepped out with the long black dress that she had brought me, we both said “that’s the one!”
Oh yes- and the best part? That dress was $17. It still had the tags on it. And it is MACHINE WASHABLE. And it was hella comfortable. And, well, wait…this blog post isn’t really about that one dress. What I’m trying to tell you is that Style Encore is about to help YOU have this same experience. They have set up a special Central Florida Mom Prom Shopping Event (they are a sponsor again this year!) and they will have all of their best gowns ready for you to try on….and associates on hand to help you find YOUR dream dress for Central Florida Mom Prom. They have doubled the normal inventory of fancy dresses in the past few weeks just for us!
The store’s stylist, Sandii will be there to help you complete the look- shoes, bag, earrings, necklace, etc- whatever you’re looking for, Sandii knows what’s in that store and can suggest some amazing extras to make you shine! And you know that, unlike department stores, those extras are not going to break the budget.
I also hear that they will have cookies and other light refreshments. And since the shopping event is from 7-9 p.m, you can leave the kids at home with a spouse or neighbor and you don’t have to share that cookie with ANYONE. (I mean, kids aren’t banned or anything, but I have yet to meet a child that is totally content while their Mom is clothes shopping. Just being realistic here.)
Mark your calendar and set a reminder in your phone – come on down to Style Encore on Colonial Drive (next to Once Upon a Child) and make sure you bring your frequent shopper punch card (or you can start a new one if you’ve never been). This year we randomly select a shopper to win a Central Florida Mom Prom ticket! The fun happens March 31, Thursday, from 7-9 p.m., and we will see you there!
