Central Florida Mom Prom
Central Florida’s inaugural event for National Mom Prom Night was on April 26, 2014. Mom Proms began in Michigan during 2006 as a ladies night out for charity, dancing the night away in old prom, bridesmaids, and wedding gowns. The night offers the ladies attending many of the trappings of a typical high school prom: dancing, music, and lots of laughter. Today, more than 50 Mom Proms take place in over 30 states and celebrate a wide variety of causes.
ICAN of Central Florida
Nearly 40% of all births in Florida are via cesarean section exposing mothers and babies to the complications of surgical birth at an increasing rate. ICAN is a nonprofit organization with over 150 chapters worldwide. ICAN’s mission is to improve maternal-child health by preventing unnecessary cesareans through education, providing support for cesarean recovery, and promoting vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC).
In the decade ICAN has been locally established, over 1000 families have received the support of the organization. The ICAN of Central Florida chapter holds monthly mother-to-mother support meetings, provides education and outreach, and advocates for evidence-based maternity care and informed decision making within our community.
